I have just completed Functional Nutrition Counseling Certification through Andrea Nakayama’s Functional Nutrition Alliance!
Functional Nutrition looks at a person’s health issues through an empathic, practical lens that allows people to work through health challenges and get greater resolution. It is science based with a focus on knowing body processes for various body systems and how they work together. There is also a focus on the counseling piece of nutritional support, with a focus on hearing people’s stories and capturing important moments in them to guide the process. It is a unique program and I am excited!
This will be launching in the winter. More information to follow.
Note that I am a body positive practitioner. This is not about dieting, restriction or weight loss. I am open to working with anyone and if someone is looking to lose weight, I will talk about inflammation and hormones and look at stabilization of underlying issues. I am not a doctor and can’t prescribe a diet for weight loss, nor do I want to.
I can, however, provide nonclinical support around body acceptance and working with you to help you experience more of it as part of this.
I am primarily focusing on chronic illness and symptom stability/reduction/adequate nutrition for people with POTS and other chronic concerns. You do not need a diagnosis to work with me and you don’t need to identify as chronically ill. I am not here to tell you how to live your life or what you could do “better” People with disability and illness already experience this. I understand that chronic illness is hard and it’s really difficult to travel for help, so services will be on the phone or zoom. If you are considering this, or just want more information on functional nutrition, check out what Andrea Nakayama has to say below. ( Click at the bottom of it where it says “Functional Nutrition Alliance” )
And if you’d like to learn more about this or any other services, you can book a free appointment with me under the Contact tab on the homepage.
